Construction Advisory - Lange Court
Water Service Line Reconnection & Pavement Condition Update

As part of the 2017 Water Main Replacement project, the water service line that serves your property will be replaced from the new water main to a new shut off (b-box) which is usually located in the parkway. The water service installations are expected to begin April 13,2017 and we hope to be complete with all services within 5 working days. Just prior to connection of your new service, your water will be turned off for approximately 1 hour. Someone will knock on your door as a reminder just prior to shut off. The water service installation could be delayed due to weather.

Storm sewer and sanitary sewer work has been completed. The new water main has been installed, tested and chlorinated. As stated above, water service will begin tomorrow. I would like to thank the residents for their patience during this time and apologize for the current roadway condition. Due to the construction activity, the existing pavement is showing signs of distress. Berger Excavating is in the process of doing temporary pavement repairs. In the future when Berger is not on Lange Court, if any pavement issue arises, please call Joe Kafka at 847-344-4499 and he will get Berger to make the repairs as quickly as possible. Once again, thank you for your continued understanding and cooperation in the project.

Following the connection of your water service to the new water main, our contractor will flush water from your outside faucet for a few minutes. This is important to remove sediment and any discoloration (rust) before it has a chance to enter your home’s plumbing system.  It is also recommended to run the cold water inside the house for 3-5 minutes following reestablishment of service.  Opening one or more faucets and running the water for a brief period is usually all that is required to clear the lines. This will help eliminate any air which may have become trapped in your system and help to prevent possible discoloration of laundry.

If you experience any problems with your water service during or after this process, please call the Public Works Department at (847) 362-3434 between 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. At other times, use the Police Non-Emergency Number (847) 362-2131, and they will contact the proper personnel for follow-up.

If you have any questions regarding this advisory or the schedule, please contact the Engineering Office at (847) 918-2100 or Joe Kafka (Resident Engineer with Gewalt Hamilton Associates) at (847) 344-4499 between 8:00 a.m and 5:00 p.m.
We appreciate your continued cooperation and patience during this project and apologize for any inconvenience.

Sincerely,

Fred Chung, Senior Project Engineer            Joe Kafka, Senior Engineering Technician
