[ARCHIVED] Code Red - May 8, 2020

Good Afternoon, this is Mayor Terry Weppler with an update regarding COVID-19. The Governor’s modified executive order has been in effect for the last week. As a reminder, Greenhouses, garden centers and nurseries are now essential businesses and retail stores not previously designated as non-essential businesses are permitted to be open to fulfill telephone and online orders. Individuals are required to wear a face covering or a mask when in a public place where they can’t maintain a six-foot social distance. Face coverings are required in all public indoor spaces, including all stores. This requirement applies to all individuals over the age of two who are medically able to tolerate a face covering or mask. All playgrounds continue to be closed but parks and trails remain open, however social distancing must be followed if they are used. Large groups are prohibited from congregating anywhere. Our tennis courts are open but require use of a mask and social distancing.

Due to the uncertainty pertaining to the safety of public gatherings this summer the Village has decided to close Adler and Riverside Pools for the 2020 season, other summer programming will be limited and the Sports Complex will remain closed until further notice. Updates regarding Recreation will be posted on the Village’s website and social media pages.  Unfortunately Libertyville Days has been cancelled this year and our Memorial Day ceremony will be held virtually.  MainStreet Farmer’s Market will be opening this year subject to restrictions.

Save the date for next Friday, May 15 at 5:00 p.m. for a Libertyville Day of Music performing America the Beautiful. All local musicians and residents are invited to participate on any instrument or voice outside your home!  A video of the event will be used for the virtual Memorial Day Ceremony.   Contact Dustin Helvie for more information at dustin.helvie@d128.org.

For up to date information on the Village’s response to the COVID-19 situation visit the Village’s website and social media pages. Please also consider signing up for the Village’s weekly e-newsletter which can be done through the website. Stay Home.  Stay Safe and Stay Healthy.
