[ARCHIVED] Economic Development Commission Requests Business Action on Proposed Route 53 Extension

The proposed extension of IL Route 53 has tremendous value to local business. Direct access at a proposed Peterson Road interchange and more convenient access to west suburban Chicago and beyond, will bring greater productivity, efficiency and cost savings. The Illinois Tollway is evaluating the future of this extension and has appointed a Blue Ribbon Advisory Council tasked with making a recommendation by May 2012 whether the extension will occur and be funded. At this time it is crucial that Libertyville businesses, demonstrate to the Council and area representatives, what this extension means to their success.

The Economic Development Commission is requesting that businesses take the time to send a letter or e-mail to those persons on the attached list to explain the importance of the Route 53 extension. Be sure to address impacts on business productivity, growth and cost savings, providing specific monetary values, employee hours, distances travelled, etc. Items to address might include the business’ ability to: expand markets served, distribute goods longer distances in less time, tap talented employees from currently difficult to recruit areas in the west and southwest suburbs, expand sales staff territories, and have employees avoid congestion and arrive at work in a more productive mindset. In acknowledgment of the environmental concerns raised concerning the extension, you may also wish to note support of the construction of this extension in an environmentally sensitive fashion and ways in which this extension may allow your business to reduce its environmental footprint. A sample letter is also attached.

Help demonstrate the importance of the Route 53 extension by sending a representative to attend one of the remaining Blue Ribbon Advisory Council meetings. The meetings have been scheduled to be held at the Lake County Central Permit Facility, 500 W Winchester Rd in Libertyville from 2-4 p.m. on April 20th and May 18th.

Should you have additional questions on this matter or desire further detail on the proposed Route 53 extension, please contact Heather Rowe, Economic Development Coordinator at (847) 918-2000.
