On July 25, 2022 the Village was notified by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources of an OSLAD grant award in the amount of $400,000 for the Nicholas Dowden North project. The project components include: a playground (with zip line), basketball court, 6-pickleball courts, baseball field removal, native swale, linear skate park and walking loop. The existing tennis courts will remain and be resurfaced. The existing hockey rink will also remain. The Village is currently pursuing cost proposals to reconfigure and increase the parking lot to include as part of the project as well. Construction is anticipated to begin in April, weather permitting with an estimated 6-month construction timeframe. The Village Board approved construction contracts and the purchase of playground and skate park equipment at the January 23, 2024 Village Board meeting. The Village has hired Featherstone, a project and construction management firm to oversee the project.
