50/50 Tree Planting Program

50/50 Tree Planting Packet

For the 2017/18 budget year, the Village Board has allocated funds to replace parkway trees in an effort to preserve the tree canopy and diversify the tree species within the boundaries of the Village of Libertyville. A 50/50 cost share replacement tree program has once again been approved.

Residents do not have to participate in this program or plant a replacement tree however we encourage all residents that have had their parkway trees removed to participate in this effort. This is a replacement program only and is intended to replace trees that have been removed in the Village parkways, in particular those that were lost due to the Emerald Ash Borer infestation.

In order to help alleviate the possibility of future diseases/insects from destroying so many of our trees and due to low nursery stock availability it has become necessary to limit quantities on the tree choices. This will help to ensure that we don’t overplant a species and our future population is more diverse. We will endeavor to plant the first priority tree(s) you have selected but may need to plant a different tree based on this tree diversity and availability. Please prioritize your preference(s), ex 1, 2, and 3, (number 1) being your first choice. Please follow all directions on the order form. All attempts will be made to honor your first choice. If we are unable to process your first choice we will make every effort to contact you to discuss optional choices.

Village staff has compiled a list of 14 trees that we will be offering in our fall tree planting program. A list of these trees along with some useful information about them has been included.
